GREY MATTERS PRODUCTIONS: HOW AND WHY?
I founded Grey Matters sometime in the early 1990’s in Allentown, PA. I had just finished a year long run of a show called OUT OF THE NET (a children’s show) my first professional gig! I had been acting in the community some years before hand. Performing in OUT OF THE NET at Touchstone Theater in Bethlehem was a great opportunity, because not only did I get a real taste of living as an actor, but I also got the chance to write my first one woman show, CHAOS ON THE EDGES (recently retitled GREY MATTERS). The show, with a story line concerning elderly abuse, was short enough to take on the road. My goal was to take the show to elderly homes and libraries. It was around Christmas and as you can probably suspect, there is a problem with touring a show about elderly abuse during a holiday season.
I wrote CHRISTMAS WITH HARRIET TUBMAN surrounding an evening meal with the legendary heroine. I felt the need to create a foundation name to travel with. I named the production company Phoenix Productions after the name of my character in OUT OF THE NET. (The name was later changed to Grey Matters of course).
My hope is to continue to produce shows that both entertain and provide something to think about, to challenge the mind.
